Oh dear, it seems as though Ryan and I jumped into this episode with both feet first. No outline, no sources, and quite honestly, we really have no Idea what we were talking about... for the most part.
Sniper loadout:
The thing about getting a good airsoft sniper rifle: Is it’s very particular to your style of play, and even where you’re playing. Things to consider:
Your Gun
Design: Cuz’ you all want to look good.
Accuarcy: More important than power, because if you miss, it doesn’t matter anyway. Usually you’ll want to factor in a new tightbore barrel. heavier bb’s etc.
Power: how far do you need to go? for where our group usually plays, I personally wouldn’t need more than a straight shot at 50yds.
Your Self:
Patience is key: Just because you’re a good shot doesn’t mean you’re a good sniper!
Designated Marksman Rifle (DMR):
A DMR, is a rifle/rifleman, in a squad, usually equipped, with a specialized rifle, for taking, longer, more accurate shots. Ghost flanking: When a designated marksman (or anyone else for that matter), Goes from a frontal attack, and changes from a dynamic (loud) mode, to a stealth mode, to flank an opposing force.
Practice makes perfect:
I’m going to take out all the clichés right now.
Practice your stealth: Low crawls, hi crawls, blending in to everything around you.
Practice marksmanship: Buying a magic gun, doesn’t give you magic powers. Practice hitting things every time.
Practice communication: Always keep your allies informed. It will help your team win! and who doesn’t want that?
Killing isn’t always the key to victory. This is where patience comes in. Deciding not to shoot could be the difference between winning and losing. If you see a guy come around the corner, and decide to shoot him just because it’s a good shot, and then you find out that he’s a pointman for a twelve man squad... you could be in trouble.
Sun Tzu says: “If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle”
Counter-sniper basics (airsoft only):
KEEP MOVING! The enemy isn’t moving and is watching your every move. Don’t give him a target by stopping. Even if you stop walking, keep your head on a swivel, and be sure to listen.
Watch your flanks, Using a game boundry to block off one of your flanks is a good way, to decrese your chances of ambush, But don’t walk into a corner, you can’t get out. Leave a point of retreat if necessary. Make them, make the first mistake. Don’t make the sniper vs. you, a one on one game. Once your shot at by a sniper. You might as well give up on stealth, because that’s playing his game. Talk to your team.
Flank that sniper.
we’re almost done... we promise:
This was/will be our weakest episode (hopefully). Why we did it first we’re not sure. Stay tuned, to hear stuff about what we actually know. :-P
*Disclaimer: Ryan started talking about modding your gun... I do not endorse this, if you don’t know what you’re doing. Find an airsmith to do this for you! Modding your gun may (and probably will) void warranties!
**disclaimer: We are only telling you what we have learned, that works best for us, in airsoft, any attempt to use these tactics in real life could result in serious injury or death.
